ALPHA CLASH: UNRIVALED

Unrivaled is the third expansion set for Alpha Clash TCG, features a long-awaited support for the Discarded affiliation, new Contenders, and 160 new cards. This set has been released in May 31st 2024.

This is one of the most challenging tasks we've ever received. We went through ups and downs in the effort to understand and putting the briefs into the arts that you are seeing now. There's even a completed artwork that we scrapped and redid it from scratch because it wasn't good enough. That was our commitment for the people behind Alpha Clash.

THE PROCESS

We start with submitting two sketches in every artwork. After getting a greenlight with that, we proceed to clean lineart.

For this example, we did two alternatives color roughs. The color roughs are just that, very rough, we don't want to dwell on effects or detail, just getting the color and lighting right first.

Then we proceed to add final touches, getting the VFX right, and making the material, shadow, and lighting more precise.

For every Alpha Clash TCG work, we are tasked to add another layer of black on any elements that is emitting light/VFX, in this case, the portal. This black layer will be processed so that when printed, it will become a shiny foil that has become Alpha Clash signature.

Our collaboration on Alpha Clash: Clashgrounds led us to do another 64 artworks in the span of 3.5 months, doing an average of 18 artworks per month. Our streamlined team structure and effective project management have ensured timely delivery of all Unrivaled artworks.

Some of our artworks also used as the booster box cover art and pre-release kit packaging art. We are honored and really glad our work can be seen as the forefront by many of the Alpha Clash fans.

Beyond that, we also joined the Spoiler Season, where the art contributor of Alpha Clash: Unrivaled share and "spoil" their artworks in a certain period before releasing the set.

Challenging as it was, it was also rewarding to see all artworks being printed and being enjoyed by players around the world.

We joined the Spoiler Season and gained 2.5k views from 1 artwork that we spoiled via Instagram Reels.

We did 64 artworks in total for Alpha Clash Unrivaled. Couple of those being used for promotional and cover art for the box and booster pack packaging art.

We did all the artworks within three and a half months, from September to mid December 2023.

TEAM STRUCTURE

The creation of the card artwork required artists that know how to draw anatomy well and can give a finished look to the linework, this also means they need to give a an increased attention to detail. We need adjustments at first, but in the end we deliver.

ART DIRECTOR

Manages art production and giving feedback, guiding the team of artist throughout the process.

ILLUSTRATOR

Create the artwork in accordance with client's brief from sketch to final delivery.

PROJECT MANAGER

Oversees the execution of tasks and ensuring the smooth progression from beginning to end.
