Reimagining a Legendary World
for a New Generation
Sonderflex Studio - Lone Wolf: Vengeance of the Kai is the latest tabletop adaptation of Joe Dever’s iconic fantasy universe, brought to life through a new board game campaign on Gamefound.
Building on over 40 years of Lone Wolf legacy, the project demanded artwork and design that honored the original illustrations while modernizing them for today’s players.
Sonderflex Studio was commissioned to handle a wide scope of illustration and graphic design, ranging from character art and card visuals to box art, tokens, and rulebook layouts.
The goal was clear: reimagine the classic Lone Wolf look with fresh western comic style illustrations that stay true to its legacy while engaging a new audience.

Workflow
Artistic Approach: From Legacy to Modern Reimagination
-
Reference to history: Our illustrations were based on the original Lone Wolf art created more than 40 years ago, keeping faith with the classic designs.
-
Western comic style: Unlike our painterly work on other projects, this project embraced a western comic pipeline—starting with sketches, refining through lineart, and finishing with bold color and dramatic rendering.
-
Single & group illustrations: From individual heroes to multi-character compositions, each artwork captured the spirit of Lone Wolf’s world in dynamic storytelling frames.
-
Graphic design integration: Every visual—from tokens to campaign pages—was designed to match the tone of the illustrations, ensuring a cohesive player experience.
